The main types of survey
we undertake are as follows :-

This is done on behalf of
a prospective buyer and involves a thorough examination of the vessel in order to establish the structural and general condition of the vessel.
It enables the buyer to decide
whether the boat fulfils their requirements and whether the asking price is consistent with the condition. Given the cost of a boat this type of survey is a very sound investment.
The survey will be carried
out with the vessel out of the water.
b) Insurance Survey – Condition and Valuation
Insurance companies will
require that older vessels are inspected every few years in order to assess their condition and value. This generally
requires a full out of the water, structural survey covering many of the same
points as a pre-purchase survey but assumes that the client already has a detailed knowledge of the vessel.
The insurance company will
generally accept the vessel provided the surveyor’s recommendations are complied with in the appropriate timescale.
In general, insurance companies
will not pay for damage arising from unseaworthiness which has been caused by the insured. This could arise from a failure
to maintain the boat or by making sub-standard repairs or alterations.
It is a waste of money paying
for an insurance policy if your boat does not conform to the required standards thus allowing the insurance company to exclude
your claim. This not only applies to the structure of your boat but internal
systems such as gas, electric and fuel. If in doubt, get a professional survey
on your boat.

Damage surveys are usually
done for insurance companies though an owner may require such a survey in order to get quotations for the repair work.
The report will be mainly
confined to the damaged area and will set out a detailed specification for repairs so that it can be used to obtain quotations.
d) Customised Survey
If you have a specific requirement for your survey then please let us know.
