The BMSE are a group of surveyors who cover all of the UK and many parts of Europe, with some members travelling world wide. They are all graduates of the Practical
Yacht and Small Craft Surveying Course run by the world renown International Boatbuilding Training College. This is the only practical based training program for surveyors of its type
and is supported by the Yacht Designer’s and Surveyors Association, which is the industry’s leading professional
standards group. In an unregulated industry, they aim to provide the boat owner with a professional survey and report that
adheres to high standards.

MECAL were formed by the Institute of Marine Engineering Science
& Technology in the early 1990’s as “Marine Engineering Certifying Authority Ltd”. They became an independent limited company in 2001 but retained strong links with IMarEST and have since
become a leading UK Certifying Authority and survey organisation.
